Juicing for Detoxification

Juicing for Detoxification

The body detoxifies itself! Detoxification programs are designed to help the body’s natural system for detoxifying. The fruits or vegetables should be chosen based on their ability to support the health and function of the liver.

The liver is the main organ of detoxification, although the colon, kidneys, lungs, lymph, and skin also play a role.

While juicing is the best way to help with this system, other methods include dry brushing the skin, fasting, exercise, sitting in a sauna and getting adequate sleep.

Detoxifying Juice Drinks

Juice drinks: an easy detoxifying juice drink can be made from just tomatoes, carrots, celery and parsley. These aid our natural detoxification processes while adding nutrients that help eliminate toxins.

I make my drinks with 3 tomatoes, 3 carrots and 2 stalks of celery. Consider adding parsley, and also beets or beet tops, or both.

Always wash and rinse all fruits and vegetables before juicing.

*Note Vegetables contain many natural chemicals such as phytonutrients, and phytosterols. Choose your vegetables carefully as some can interfere with normal body processes or medication.

Carrots

Carrots have natural detoxifiers that are particularly good for cleansing the liver.

Carrots contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, biotin, C and k and the minerals calcium, iron and potassium and soluble fiber.

Carrots contain the carotenoids-alpha, beta and lutein known for their antioxidant properties. Antioxidants control excess free radical formation (oxidative stress). Free radicals and oxidative stress increase the incidence of cancer and premature aging.

Carrots contain the polyphenols caffeic acid, coumaric acid, ferulic acid, cyanidin and malvidins all antioxidants that not only scavenge free radicals but control the formation of new ones.

Carrots contain anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Beets and Beet Tops

Beets are a good source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, folic acid, choline and vitamin C and the minerals calcium, copper, iodine, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium, and fiber.

Beets and beet tops contain powerful anti-cancer properties, plus two important phytonutrients, vulgaxanthins which have anti-cancer and antioxidant properties and betalains which support Phase II liver detoxification which involves drug metabolism.

Beets contain pectin which helps the body to detoxify. Several studies support the theory that beets and beet greens may help reduce the risk of cancer, such as leukemia, prostate, and colon cancers. They have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Beetroot is believed to be a full body purifier.

Cruciferous Vegetables

Cruciferous vegetables such as Brussel’s sprouts, broccoli and cabbage contain sulfur-rich sulforaphane which fights the bacteria H. pylori which has been linked to stomach ulcers and stomach cancer.

Cruciferous vegetables are rich in glucosinolates. They are sulfur-containing compounds proven to aid in our body’s natural detoxification process by increasing the hepatic detoxification enzymes. Other cruciferous vegetables are kale, cauliflower, bok choy, watercress, turnips, collard greens, and radishes.

Kale contains isothiocyanates that help to detoxify carcinogens.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, C and k, and the minerals iron magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, plus fiber, and the anticancer, antioxidant lycopene which protects against free radicals and oxidative stress. Free radicals and oxidative stress may play a role in cancer development and premature aging.

Parsley

Parsley-contains vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, folic acid, C, E, and K and the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and potassium, plus fiber, beta-carotene, and the flavonoid luteolin which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

It also contains chlorophyll, which is used as an aid in liver detoxification, as a blood cleanser, a diuretic, and to strengthen capillaries,

and it contains several therapeutic oils, such a myristicin which has antioxidant, anti-cancer, and anti-tumor properties.

Celery

Celery contains both soluble and insoluble fiber, vitamins A, B2, B5, B6, B9, C, and K, the minerals calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium, phosphorus, and sodium, and electrolytes.

Celery is 95% water. Celery boosts hydration, helps flush toxins, is alkalinizing, and has antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help neutralize free radicals.

Celery contains an array of phytonutrients. The ones listed here play a role in detoxification.

Celery contains: Phenolic acids including caffeic acid, coumaric acid and ferulic acid which are antioxidants and accordingly help prevent oxidative stress, cancer, and premature aging.

Luteolin, a flavone which is anti-inflammatory.

Phthalides-a natural vasodilator which relaxes artery walls, increases blood flow, reduces blood pressure, and also acts as a diuretic.

Apiuman, a pectin-based polysaccharide which protects stomach mucosa helping to prevent stomach ulcers. Apiuman is an anti-inflammatory.

Vitamin C

Raw fruits and vegetables are high in vitamin C.

Vitamin C detoxifies the body from many types of toxins including those in air pollution, other carcinogens, snake, and spider bites. It helps bone marrow to repair (part of the immune system). It improves glandular function, immunity, helps heal gums and blood vessels, improves blood pressure, and helps regulate cholesterol levels.
